A Secret That I’ve Learned about Panic Attacks

I was somewhere in my mid-20s whenever I first started to have my first bouts with anxiety attacks. Even though I realized that it was always a possibility of having these anxiety attacks, especially since both my parents suffered from them, I was hoping that eventually I would be able to go through my life without dealing with them. As it turns out, they were simply waiting inside of me to come out whenever I turned a little bit older.

Whenever I first experienced an anxiety attack, it hit me a bit unexpectedly. The feelings that washed over me whenever I have the anxiety were so unusual that I didn’t recognize them as being an anxiety attack at first. It started as a classic pain in my chest, almost as if I was having a heart attack or feeling as though I had severe heartburn. It took a few hours for the anxiety to calm down and during that time, I suffered from everything from cold sweats to a feeling as if I was going to lose control.

It was surprising, because I had always thought that I would have anxiety attack someday and I kept it in the back of my mind so that I wasn’t taken by surprise such as this but it was difficult for me to imagine what was going on whenever I was in the middle of it. You’ve probably felt similar, especially whenever you first begin to experience anxiety and panic attacks regularly. There are times whenever it may make you feel as if you have a very serious health problem but if you are able to get yourself beyond these initial feelings, you may be able to face the problem and deal with it successfully.

In talking with a number of different people who have also suffered with panic attacks, I found that they tended to fight the panic as if it were going to go away faster as if they attacked it in return. The funny thing is, it rarely ever works this way and it is usually working exactly the opposite way for you. The harder you struggle against the waves of panic that are overcoming you, the more difficult it is going to be for you to overcome the situation and the feelings that you are having. I’m sure that you have experienced this for yourself.

If you would like to know a little secret that can help you overcome these anxiety attacks much quicker, it would be to simply allow the anxiety to go underneath you instead of trying to fight your way directly through the middle of it. Think of yourself as if you were riding on top of a wave of the ocean. There’s no way that you would be able to fight the wave, the only thing that you could possibly do is stay on top and allow it to do its work. This is exactly what I started to do with my anxiety attacks.

This turned out to be one of the better things I’ve ever done as far as my anxiety attacks were concerned. They lasted a much shorter amount of time and I even begin to notice that they were occurring less frequently. If you can muster up the courage to allow the anxiety to work underneath you, you may be able to experience the same relief from your panic that I did.
