What is your prickly pear?
A prickly pear is actually only prickly on the outside, inside is the good stuff. That prickly skin protects a sweet juicy fruit. Your task you are avoiding is like the prickly pear and unfortunately that prickly skin is why task avoidance is so common. Yet like the pear, once you get the chore done, there is a reward.
Why are you procrastinating?
You know the project is important, yet here you are facing task avoidance. You find various reasons to delay and avoid it. Fear, worry and insecurities are the prickly thorns. Perhaps you are a perfectionist and you avoid the thorns, because you are sure you will not do it exactly right. Then again maybe the thorns overwhelm you or just unpleasant. Task avoidance means you can not be productive.
How big are the thorns?
The funny thing about tasks you dislike, they are often followed by tasks you enjoy. Yet you avoid the unpleasant thorns and delaying all the tasks that follow. Or maybe once you finally end your task avoidance, you find completing the task was not that difficult or it was more pleasant than you expected. The problem is you allow the image of the thorns to grow and grow making it worse in your own mind.
What is your fruit?
Perhaps once the chore is completed you can get around to the after tasks you enjoy, this is a nice fruit to enjoy. The fruit can be the reward of a challenge conquered and that you finally have the task you have avoided done. Perhaps you need to offer yourself a reward upon completion for your fruit. But like the prickly pear, the fruit needs to be worth the prickly skin.
Conquer your prickly pear first!
