People hear the word meditation and automatically a little limber monk in a pretzel-like posture is overcoming their imagination. This is far from the norm. Mainstream media has a funny way of making true arts & sciences look like novelty acts. This simple technique will defy all the spoofs surrounding this important practice.
Step-By-Step Instructions
- Make sure you are in a quiet location
- I recommend playing classical music, meditation music or other relaxing sounds (search YouTube or other media sites)
- You may sit, lay down, sit Indian style or any other comfortable position
- Only rule is that your SPINE MUST BE STRAIGHT AND/OR ERECT
1. Get in your comfortable position
2. Close your eyes & keep them closed
3. Take deep breaths in & out through your nose
- Maintain this throughout the entire session
4. Let your mind go blank. Block out all your conscious thoughts, visions, plans & ego
- When a thought YOU form comes, quickly dismiss it into blankness
- This will be somewhat difficult at first but will get easier
5. Concentrate/Focus on the rhythm of your breaths and the inside of your eyelids
- You will notice different colors and shapes (This should happen the very first time, if not, definitely within a few sessions)
Do this meditation for 10-20 minutes, 1-2 times a day. The more you meditate consistently, the greater you will benefit. You will have thoughts coming and going. The key is to let yourself receive the thoughts that didn’t form in YOUR conscious. For example, you may “receive” an answer to a question that you have thought about for some time. Or you may have a “thought” to go somewhere that you never would have pondered about before. DO act on the thoughts or visions you receive for these are life missions and/or important information.
