Yesterday I read an article taking it even further. The article was written by a person who is a life coach and has also written books on Google AdWords and other topics. His goal is to help people learn how to become entrepreneurs.
The article was talking about our children going through 13 to 17 years of school. What do they have to look forward to as far as work is concerned when they have completed their education. They have consumed all that “STUFF” but now what? What have they learned about life, especially in an economic downturn that we are all living through. What classes have trained them to do anything other than to be able to get a job in “WALMART, TGIF,” or any other job paying more that $7.00 per hour? They very well may have the training to do other things, but how are they going to get those jobs if they are non-existent.
One thing for sure is that we do not want our children getting so discouraged that they get themselves into things they should not, and become lazy and unmotivated.
Do not get me wrong. Education is the backbone of our society, but look what we are teaching our children; math, science, social studies, etc. I do not see any courses teaching them lifes’ lessons, and how to prepare for times like these. For sure there are not many courses to teach them how to become entrepreneurs.
I would venture to say that most of the kids have been using computers most of their lives. Let us be a little open minded and advanced here.
One of my sons finished college and was a personal trainer for a few years. He decided that was not what he wanted to do. He had all this education and had no idea what was next. After alot of hard work, struggle and determination. he is now a very successful entrepreneur at the age of 38. Even back 10 years ago, he knew that there had to be a better way. From day one, he knew he was going to be very successful and not make other people a success and he not have anything to show for it. He knew it and we knew he was unemployable!
As parents, it was hard to understand what his mission was, but he knew it all the time that he was going to do what ever it took to get him the where he is now.
So what I suggest to the parents out there reading this article is to encourage your children and guide them, not only to look for jobs in the “traditional” sense of the word, but to think of a future in their own business as entrepreneurs. Encourage them to think outside the box and use all their knowledge that they have gotten to this point. The world is open to them.
The internet is just exploding in front of us.
