Guided meditation requires no coaching, nor any kind of special instruments to practice, a chunk of your free time and the will to be wealthy in terms of body and soul; is more than enough to get you on the lines of meditation. Meditation can be performed anywhere and anytime, and it helps mind restore its peace and body; its energy. Day long work and the worries of day to day life, accumulates stress in the body and mind. Meditation can drain down your stress and relax you.
Guided meditation combines and utilizes all the eight steps suggested by the Ashtanga Yoga of Patanjali which are Yama, Asana, Pranayama, Niyama, Dharana, Pratyahara, Dhyaana and Samadhi. These steps of the Yoga teach us that, one should sit erect, with the legs folded and head straight up, making sure that the spine is erect (Asana). Next comes the rhythm of breath. It teaches us that one should be able to control the prana or vital breath. Its inhalation and exhalation must be controlled. By doing so we are bringing the body, mind and all other organs under our control. Pratyahara is the step which teaches us to use our sense our inside. We are given five senses to touch and feel the external world, Prathyahara guides us the way with which one can feel one’s inside. Once we are done with Pratyahara, we continue to Dharana. Dharana is concentrating on a single point in mind and shedding away all other thoughts, this is a difficult step and usually takes time to master. Dharana helps us improve our concentration. Our mind being vivid and volatile often shifts and undulates to several of thoughts, but Dharana gets us mastered in concentrating on one thing. Next we perform Dhyana, where one learns how to become thoughtless. This step is difficult, and takes time to master. Making the mind void of thoughts cannot be performed for a long time, as our mind is always busy thinking, and by making it thoughtless, we provide it peace and re energize it.
Samadhi is experiencing the feeling of attachment with the universal power which remotely guides us. It makes us feel super conscious.
When all of these steps are performed together for a fixed period of time every day, then it is sure to bring about healthy changes in the mind and noticeable changes in the body.
