Taking Reiki courses will teach you that:
The power of Reiki will be yours for the rest of your life once your are initiated. Indeed, you will become a channel for the Reiki energy, but it will flow on its own accord, (you can not direct or manipulate it.)
No conscious focusing is necessary.
A Reiki practitioner is not in danger of taking on other modalities of healing.

Reiki effectiveness is immediate and apparent, in the case of cut, bleeding, burn, bruise and acute pain.
Reiki can even heal those who are not physically present (this is 2nd Degree distant-healing).
Reiki does help and guide you to develop your spiritual growth.
Reiki doesn’t replace a doctor, non-medical practitioner and/or comparable orientated education!
So why does a reiki course require Attunements?
Attunements connect you to the source of Reiki. Through them Chakras are opened and cleared, and so Reiki can flow through them. It means you are now able to channel Reiki to yourself and others when desired.
In the First Degree reiki course:
You will learn the basics: knowledge about Reiki, and a basic hands-on healing method.
You will learn about Aura and Chakra.
You will be initiated into Reiki by means of Attunements that will empower you to be a Reiki channel.
From this time on, Reiki energy will flow through your hands and do a fine job of healing. It means YOU are now a (healer) a Reiki practitioner for the rest of your life.
The Second Degree reiki course:
You will get three symbols and their respective mantras after receiving the Second Degree.
Using these symbols, Reiki healing will became more practical and beneficial.
With the introduction of the third symbol you will then be empowered to do Reiki healing on a person not physically present. This is called distance-healing.
In the Third Degree reiki course:
You will be given the fourth symbol and its mantra after receiving the attunement that will make your Reiki energy become much subtler.
Teacher’s Degree reiki course:
You will learn how to properly do the Attunements and how to teach Reiki.
