Sometimes life becomes so routine, we go through our days on autopilot. That’s okay if it’s working, but if we’re not getting the results we want, if we sense we are in a rut, or if we’re feeling bored, it may be time to shake things up and get our creative juices flowing.
Changing our routines is one of the simplest ways to get new life flowing. How? Start by doing something different, something unexpected, or something beyond your normal comfort zone. This action doesn’t have to be anything wild and crazy. Even little changes in routing moves us to a different place.
Today is a new day. What can you do differently?
Some easy ways of changing things up are looking through your closet and wearing something different than you typically wear. Pretend to be someone else for a moment. Part your hair on the right instead of on the left. Get up earlier than normal and watch the sunrise. Wear one black sock and one red sock to work. Eat dinner for breakfast. Paint your bedroom a new color. Take a new art class. Once you start consciously looking around your life, you might be surprised to see how much of what you do is simply an automatic routine.
To help get your creativity flowing, ask yourself these questions:
How can I make today better than if I just let it run its natural course?
What could I do differently today that would energize and surprise me?
How can I change my attitude or behavior?
What could I do that would be completely out of character?
The point is to “change it up.” Altering routines opens you up to new ways of looking at the world. It widens the channel to your spirit. Acting differently elevates you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Whatever you change, no matter how small, makes a positive impact in finding new joy.
