Then there is also the unexpected change that happened to so many families because of financial turmoil in our country. Currently many people are facing the former due to our economy undergoing a major transition. Job lay offs and financial cut-backs are forcing people to tap into their emotional resources and coping skills in order to deal with the new reality of their lives.
Then there is the change that we create for ourselves. Change that is driven from the inside has to do with a desire for growth. It comes about because there is an inner drive to develop oneself and be who one is meant to be. This change is felt on the inside. Some times it is an outer event that pushes the change. A friend of mine who has been unhappy in her relationship only began to face her unhappiness when she had a medical scare. Other times the internal process of creating change may come about in spurts or very gradually.
Both outer and inner driven change require that we move outside our comfort zone. When at all possible it is best initiated in small and manageable increments. Without change life can become dull and habitual. In order to grow as people we need to open ourselves up to seeing the world and our own potential as places where we can flourish and have an impact.
