Selling to Niche Markets

Gary Ryan Blair is one of the worlds leading strategic planning and goal-setting trainers. Often called The Goals Guy, Gary is the president of the Tampa-based organization called The GoalsGuy, and he also started a program called Got Goals?

Gary is the bestselling author of eight books, including Everything Counts, What Are Your Goals?, Goal Setting Forms, Goal Setting 101, and Goal Setting for Results. He believes life wont go according to plan if you dont start with a plan.

Gary Ryan Blair has taught goal-planning to many top sports teams and companies, including the New York Giants, the New York Yankees, Apple, FedEx, GE, DreamWorks, and Disney. Over 80,000 organizations around the world use his training programs and services (which accounts for approximately five million employees).

Gary enrolled at Syracuse University thinking it would be his ticket to pro football, but thanks to a lineman on the Boston College football team, a double knee injury derailed Garys plan.

The injury happened during the early 1980s, just about the same time AT&T was breaking up. Gary thought there should be a long-distance telephone service just for college students, so he wrote about it for an assignment. The paper got an A and led to a real-world job working with a marketing department.

When Gary Ryan Blair was only 21 years old, the business hed dreamed about finally came to be. He called the first long-distance telephone service for college students Collegiate Telephony Services. Six years later, Gary was able to sell the company to MCI for a pretty penny. He took an extended European vacation to celebrate.

After his vacation, Gary Ryan Blair was feeling pretty bored. He was ready to get out and do something, but what? He bought a dealer, and right away, he knew that the best way to market its products was to go to niche markets rather than geographical markets.

During this time, Gary also got his certification in the Dale Carnegie course. He started asking himself and others what his strengths were. The answers were strategy and goal planning. No one else owned that market, so he came up with the memorable name The Goals Guy, and the rest is history!
