Simplifying Your Stressful Schedule

It is likely that you have often wished for more hours in the day to accomplish everything on your to-do list. Although it is true that our days are packed with various responsibilities, we are the ones who create our schedules. We choose the routine we follow every week, and so we have only ourselves to blame for the busyness in our lives.

Simplifying your life will require that you make yourself and your own needs more of a priority. Many spend the majority of their days doing things for other people so that there is no time left for them to accomplish personal goals. While it is important not to neglect friends and family, you must determine a healthy balance.

When you take the time to review all the activities in your day, you may come to realize that many of the things you placed a high importance on are not that imperative after all. This may be in part because you believed that the things you did for others you really did for yourself. Careful analysis of your busy schedule may show you that’s not true.

It is easy for others to take advantage of you if you always say yes. You must teach yourself to recognize those whose laziness you are enabling and learn that it is okay, even necessary, to say no.

By always saying yes, you are self-imposing unnecessary stress. If you have the ability or option to avoid stress, there is no good reason that you shouldn’t. You may even have to learn to say no to yourself if what you are doing is costing you time that might be better spent elsewhere.

Take a look at the things on your to-do list that have been there for weeks or even months. If you have managed to exist for so long with these unaccomplished chores, the chances are that they are not that important. Crossing these off the list can reduce your stress and ease your mind.

Consider breaking down lists into long and short-term goals. Determine a period of time in which to accomplish each and decide on the steps you will take to complete them. Having a detailed plan can simplify your schedule tremendously.

Another culprit in your overworked schedule is probably clutter. When items are disorganized it can take twice as long to locate them, costing you time and stress. Taking some time to organize your belongings will in turn organize your life, reducing stress and saving time.
