Most families opt to go abroad for the summer to get away and relax, but that is not happening this year due to the economic downturn and the weakness of the pound compared to other currencies.

This is something that every kid loves doing; allow them to have six great weeks of playing computer consoles or watching TV. Although it may not be really beneficial for their wellness, they will adore you as they literally get to be completely slothful for over a month.
Work
Ok this one may sound slightly more boring, but why not make your kids get a part time job? This way they will literally learn to respect themselves and things that they buy as they have worked very hard for it.
Day Trips
This may end up costing you quite a bit of money, but it will be a great experience, days out to the theme park or the zoo are always fun.
