Just as we see many different ways of approaching parenting with qualities of understanding, counsel and guidance, we also see leaders and mentors of differing styles in the MLM industry. Those leadership styles should be considered when prospective business partners launch into a new business endeavor.
In the world of network marketing the leader’s goal is discover those individuals who are ready to change their lives and consider themselves to be “coachable” unlike the stereotypical teenager, and to be ready to learn those gems of wisdom, techniques and skill sets that their leaders are ready and willing to share with them. But just like teenagers, many new recruits feel that they know more than their mentors and can figure out a faster, easier and better way to achieve the successes that await them in the world of MLM professionals. Much like a loving and understanding parent, you would think that their mentor will just let them blunder through the learning process and then step in when that “teachable moment” occurs and set them back on the course to success.
Unfortunately, in the world of business it is rare to find leaders or mentors who are willing to take the time to keep the door open while the new recruit learns all of this. Far too often, the leaders who are in demand because of their success and achievement, are not able to hang in there with the new recruit because they are moving onto the next new team member who shows promise. Sort of like, “what have you done for me lately”. So, unless you can find a mentor and leader who is committed and skilled enough at helping you work through those ‘teaching moments’ you’ll just be another number running through the system.
