The Greatest Key to Life in the Spirit

Romans 5:20 says, “The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more…”

That means there is always more grace than sin. Sin cannot increase to the point that it overtakes grace in quantity or quality. The Law came so that sin would be displayed for what it is in all of its ugliness. That we might know the depth and the blackness of it. So that when we turn from it we really turn from all of it. If we don’t see it for what it really is, we would not be able to confess the full extent of it presents in our life. But regardless of the depth of the blackness and horror if sin, grace abounds all the more.

Sin is a truth found in the Bible to be sure, but it is not a greater truth than grace. Grace is a superior truth. Grace, righteousness, and holiness are all superior truths in scripture.

If you are a born again follower of Jesus Christ I do not think that God has sin on His mind all day as He watches over you. For his children though, that seems to be all we reflect on at times. People say that God can do anything. I say that there is something that He cannot do and will not do. That is remember against you what you keep remembering against yourself. If your sin is under the blood of Christ, God cannot remember it, let alone remember it against you!

If you are blood cleansed your sin is not in His eyes! His grace is in His eyes as He looks at you.

Many of us explored the depth of sin as sinners. When will we explore the depths of grace? When will we as God’s forgiven children explore the depths of His love? Why do I and so many others keep God at bay? When will grace be as big in our eyes as it is in our Fathers eyes?

Grace is more beautiful that sin is ugly. Grace has more power to redeem than sin has power to condemn.

Here is possibly the single greatest key to life in the Spirit, a life of victory and peace, fruitfulness and power. What is it? Simply becoming convinced that the truth about grace is greater than the truth about sin. That the blessing of grace and what it can produce in my life is greater than what sin could have produced.

There is no comparison whatsoever. How dare we ever act as though sin had the power to keep us from our destiny in God. How dare we ever act as though righteousness could not obliterate sin altogether without breaking a sweat. Who am I to treat sin as though it had more power than God Almighty. You say I would never do that. Oh really!

We have all done it, me to! Every time I ever remembered past sins against myself and let that memory keep me from fellowship with God, and made me feel condemned, I did it. Every time I beat myself up over my past, I did it. I didn’t mean to and I certainly didn’t plan to, but the results are still the same. I stand there looking at myself through sin while God is looking at me through grace.

I said all that to say this! I believe if you could look deeply into Jesus eyes that you would find condemnation strangely absent from His gaze. Why would we find it “strangely” missing? Because maybe that is what we would expect to find, and would be surprised if we didn’t. We might be surprised to see in His eyes what He really thinks about us.
