The Masters, Phil Mickelson and You!

As I watched Phil Mickelson win the Masters Tournament (for those who don’t know, it’s THE most prestigious golf tournament of the year), I was most impressed not because of his illustrious career. Not because this was his 3rd Masters win/3rd green jacket. Not because he had back to back Eagles and numerous Birdies. I am most impressed because his beloved wife, Amy who he adores, is in the throes of fighting cancer. With her love and support, he played, stayed focused and won. The entire week of the Master’s, Amy had to stay in bed in order to have the strength to be able to attend Phil’s final round of the fourth and final day of the tournament. Neither of them knew if Phil would win, but Amy wanted to be there to greet her husband when he came off the course, no matter where he placed in the competition.

It’s always been about the family for Phil and specifically now, we watched him embracing “pink” with the ribbon on his golf cap, honoring his wife. Playing with extraordinary purpose and determination, Phil Mickelson rose above a year of challenges, torment, personal trauma and crisis. He stayed focused and disciplined, envisioning his goal. He was committed to winning, not at the cost of his family, but to honor his family. Phil stated during the green jacket ceremony, “I am very proud of my wife and the fight and struggle she’s been through….this win feels terrific and very emotional. I’ll look back on this day as always memorable.”

If we were all able to stay as focused in the midst of our personal crises, as Phil Mickelson was able to stay during his, can you imagine what we could accomplish? If we were able to practice and envision our goals the way Phil did, where would we be in a year?

Let me share a bit of my past year from May 2009 to present (April 2010): After becoming an owner of a network marketing company, I found out a month later that I had to have major reconstructive surgery which took 6 months of recovery. I suffered Pneumonia and 9 months later, bronchitis. I lost my 12 room beautifully decorated Victorian home of my dreams…had to let it go for a a song because I could no longer maintain it; I had to move. My mom had surgery and then ended up with an 8 day stay in the hospital and we thought we were going to lose her. A 2009 Hummer with no insurance (he lived in NH where insurance is not required) smashed my car, causing $3500 damage and personal injury to me. I’m in the process of trying to hunt him down and take legal action against him just so I can get my car fixed….which is a year long tale in itself! I had to have weekly physical therapy for more than a year….and the list goes on (as it does for all of us!) But all that stuff….surgeries, loss of home, severe car accident, illness, etc is NOTHING compared to Phil Mickelson’s wife, Amy, fighting cancer. My ability to stay focused and disciplined is minutia compared to Phil Mickelson’s ability to envision his goals and meet them in the midst of such incredible crisis. Phil Mickelson won the Masters and is a Master at his area of expertise!

How in the world did I find time to run my business, which was now my FULL TIME job and primary income in the midst of my trauma? Call me crazy….call it a phenomenon….call it what you will, but during a horrific personal year, I continued building my business daily, weekly, monthly… envisioning my goals, treating clients and candidates alike, with honesty and integrity. I am becoming a MASTER at my area of expertise in network marketing!

With the insight of Jordan Adler (multi millionaire Network Marketer and author), here’s what I have come to understand:

1. People who DO NOTHING, MAKE NOTHING! It’s quite simple!

2. I am the cause of the size of my team and my business

3. I am the cause of the size of my volume.

4. I am the cause of the size of my income!!

98% of all traditional businesses fail within the first year. Yes, it is true, you can build a successful business in network marketing on a part time schedule AND you can create a SUBSTANTIAL INCOME in 3 to 5 years that comes in whether you go to work or not, BUT you MUST apply the same simple principles to your networking business as any other business if you are to have success. You must get started, (which I did)… you must build relationships with lots of people, (which I do)… you must be patient, (which I try to do!)… you must be consistent (which I MOSTLY am)… you must take daily action (which I absolutely do) AND you must be willing to SEE THE JOB THROUGH-no matter how severe the trauma and crises are in your life! Each of us has trauma, crisis, and/or financial loss. Today I continue to wish you prosperity and hope. But mostly, I pray that you keep on keeping on, because if you do, you will make it, just as I am making it. YOU will have success and like Phil Mickelson, YOU will reach your goals and you can be a MASTER in your specific area of expertise. Your fan, Lori
