What Are Some Fun Little Ways to Motivate People?

I like to give inspiration to people (especially those going through tough times). Any suggestions on just little sayings or gifts I could do for them that would make them smile?

Suggestion:

My Mom and our Pastor both, back in the 50's would go to the store and buy special cards on Motivation and surprise me with one at different times of my life. It meant the world to me and made me try harder to be a good person.
