What Are the Best Ways to Motivate Yourself to Stop Doing Something and Do Another Instead?

I'm asking for your opinions, and please make them as looooooooong as you wish! :)

Why am I asking this, you wonder? I am a computer addict. Besides, I'm a really active person with lots of interests and aims (I'm a Sagittarius btw, so it's no surprise at all :D ). I want to do and achieve many, many, many and many things in my life. For example – I want to learn Norwegian and Finnish, have a band, learn to play some songs on the guitar, write a book + continue writing poetry, also I want to start drawing again, etc.etc. However, there's that little obstacle – whenever I get some free time, like now, during the holidays, and I get LAZY AS HELL and only stare at the monitor ALL DAY!!! ;X In the end of the day, when I go to bed I just feel mad at myself, because my many goals are overwhelming then – but I'm too sleepy and then the next morning – all over again. IT'S BEEN LIKE THAT FOR YEARS NOW! Don't know what to do anymore, I just wish I could throw the PC from my window and get a life! :D Unfortunately, I can't because it's my mom's computer………….. With 2012 on my doorstep I feel I need to make a HUGE change in my life and this is it: no more World of Warcraft and other useless stuff wasting my time! But… how???

Hey, i use to think that i might be a sex addict…or somethin like it so 1nce, i swore cellibacy for a year to prove to myself that i wasnt. Of course i only made it for 8 consecutive months, but thats progress righ?! :D I guess the moral of my story is that if u aim for the heavens & u make it to the stars, u are still successful. Just start somewhere… a less extreme goal would be the 30 day plan. It has been said that it takes at least 30 days to change a habit. So at day 1, why dont u replace that pc with a bunch of other things ?

you can change anyone's behavior by knowing their values and goals. If you have the power to do so that is. Look at what you value and picture yourself without it, this is usually the outcome if you don't work and have the money to buy all the nice things you want. Also you could try to think about all the positive things you'll get from doing something different. Everyday thing of one thing you can do differently to change things up a bit. Habit's are hard to break so avoid making promises because the end result will most likely be a false sense of accomplishment just by putting it out there. Good luck and take one day at a time.

Well, you can delete EVERYTHING on the computer.
You could also create a password, and don't look at the keys, and just random letters, or a REALLY hard word to pronouce, and even screw it up.
Sweetie, if you really want anything, you gotta be willing to grow up.
My life has been consumed before, even though I wanted to be better.
I realized, "I must not want this bad enough if I continute to live like this".
I know all that stuff is fun, but is it important? Is it really what you want?
