What Do You Do to Motivate Yourself and Keep Yourself from Giving Up/failing?

I’ve always had a problem with this, especially now that I’m in college.

It’s so much easier to sit back and procrastinate, or not do anything at all than putting in the effort and working hard at something to get the results you want. I’m talking about life in general as well as school.

But I know it’s what I need to do in order to become less dependent of my parents and get where I need to go in life.

Do you have someone (a teacher, a parent, a friend) in your life you look up to and want to make happy? Is there someone who’s always told you “you can do it because I believe in you?” (sorry it’s super cheesy!)

Old habits are hard to break, but it’s not impossible I know.

So…any advice?

I’m hoping this question sort of helps others who have a similar problem as well
:o )

Suggestion:

I go to boarding school, and sometimes stress and pressure get to be completely overwhelming [especially when I talk to friends from home and they brag about having no homework/going out] and I just want to give up completely.

In those situations, I go for a walk/go somewhere alone and just take some time to calm down and sort through my thoughts. I get stressed out SO often in school, and it's so easy to get stressed with juggling several weekly tests/quizzes, constant giant essays, the normally huge workload, roommates, friendship drama, laundry, dealing with "dorm mothers".

I also find that it helps to listen to some music, make a list of things I need to get done, have everything I need available to me, put aside distractions, and get things done. I do this because I know in a few years, the thing I want to give up on will probably seem like something small and pretty unimportant and if I failed, I'd never forgive myself.

I don't really have anyone I look up to. I mean, I want to make my parents happy and everything, but there's not just one single person who I always get inspiration/motivation from. Usually, I'll look at others and think "if they can do it, so can I" or "I don't want to end up like them" [:p] and that'll help.

I hope this makes sense :p
